This book Two Kins' Pumpkins, is just one book in a series of seven classic Korean folk tales published by Si-sa-yong-o-sa Publishers in Seoul, way back in 1985, while I was teaching at Sungkyunkwan University. The book was written for children. Not very long after its publication, the students in the Sungkyunkwan University club AFKN Listening Association asked me to recommend a one-act play for their annual drama presentation. I suggested turning Harelip, another tale in this series, into a play. They did and we and the audience loved it. Next, we did this one, which was also a big hit. Now they and other plays, all expanded into multi-act plays, are in my book A Yang for Every Yin.
